A 3Commas alternative where your keys never touch a cloud
If you're looking at 3Commas, you're probably comfortable with the idea of automated trading — but maybe not thrilled about two things: paying every month, and handing your exchange API keys to someone else's servers. NoxTrade is built for exactly that discomfort. It's self-hosted, you bring your own Binance keys (with withdrawals disabled), you pay once, and an AI — Claude — makes the calls with logged reasoning. Here's an honest comparison, including the cases where 3Commas is the better fit.
How they differ
| 3Commas (cloud SaaS) | NoxTrade (self-hosted) | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | their cloud | your machine or server |
| Your API keys | stored on their servers | never leave your machine |
| Pricing | monthly subscription | one-time purchase |
| Decision-making | rule/preset bots (DCA, grid, signals) | AI (Claude) with logged reasoning per trade |
| Source code | closed | included with purchase — read it |
| Track record | marketing figures | public, losses included |
| Exchanges | many | Binance (focused) |
The custody point — why self-hosted is a different trust model
The uncomfortable truth about any cloud bot: to trade for you, it has to hold API keys to your exchange account. That makes every cloud bot provider a honeypot — API key leaks have happened in this industry, more than once. It's not about whether a specific company is trustworthy today; it's that the architecture requires you to trust them, permanently.
NoxTrade's answer is structural, not promissory: your keys sit on your machine, scoped to spot-trading with withdrawals disabled — the agent refuses to start with a withdrawal-enabled key. There is no NoxTrade server that could leak them, because there is no NoxTrade server in the loop at all.
Honest about the price
NoxTrade costs 59 € once (including 12 months of updates), not a monthly fee. To be fair in both directions: free open-source bots like Freqtrade exist, and if you enjoy configuring strategies yourself, they're excellent. What the one-time price buys here is different: it runs out of the box (installer wizard, no coding), the decision-making is AI-led rather than a config file you have to tune, you get support, and the developer runs it on his own money with a public track record. You're not paying for source code — you're paying for the finished, working system. The source is included so you can verify it, not because it's the product.
Who should NOT switch
Honesty builds more trust than a sales pitch, so: 3Commas is the better tool if you need multi-exchange support, copy trading, or a marketplace of signal providers. NoxTrade is deliberately narrow: one exchange (Binance), one AI agent, your hardware. If breadth is what you want, stay with the cloud. If custody, one-time pricing and inspectable code are what you want, that's exactly the trade-off NoxTrade makes.
